Handmade Wardrobe // Axel

Happy July!

I'm slowly but surely tackling all the sewing projects that I prepped while I was pregnant. First up - this tie waist Axel skirt! I fell in love with this pattern when my friend Megan released it, so it shot right to the top of my to-do list. And I'm kind of obsessed with this floral scuba knit fabric that I chose, even though it kind of camouflages the tie detail of the skirt in photos. It looks so much better in real life!

I MAKE FASHION

Remember when I teamed up with Megan Nielsen awhile back and I was doing all those fun sewing tutorial posts? Well did you guys know that I'm back at it, contributing to Design Diary again? I've already shared some technique tutorials, like inserting an exposed zipper, gathering heavy fabrics, and working with PDF patterns. But today I've posted a fun DIY for the off the shoulder dress that I wore in this post. And now I have a really chic chambray version too! If you're a sewer (or even if you're not and just want to give it a try. I swear it's pretty easy), head on over to see how you can make one of your own.

SOFT KITTY, WARM KITTY

Meow.

And If you know what the title of the post is referring to, we can be best friends. Big Bang Theory is currently one of our favorite shows! Of course, Boo and I have discussed which character we are (as you usually do with your favorite tv shows and movies, right?!). Anyway, It only took us about a whole two seconds to determine that I’m most definitely a Raj. Most definitely.

SHIBORI, DARLING

shiboridarling1

Here it is! My first project with my DIY-ed shibori fabric. I’ve been dreaming up a knit/woven combo Darling Ranges dress for a long time, but just needed the right fabric. I did make a few mistakes, and ended up having to add some green binding to the armholes after cutting them too much (grrrr), but, overall, I am soooooo happy with the way it turned out! Just what I’ve been picturing :)

LOUNGE-Y

lounge1

The last time I made a pair of leggings with this pattern, they were a bit, um, flashy. This time around I opted for a really lounge-y grey rib knit. And I’ve pretty much been living in them around the apartment ever since. I knew they would never make it to an outfit post, giving the lounge factor. So I grabbed the tripod (and Henry, too) and documented them on a snowy morning.

Meet Virginia

You’re eyes are not playing tricks on you. I’m wearing shiny gold leggings. Shiny. Gold. Leggings. I blame Megan. She did it first, and I became obsessed. So I couldn’t help myself. Shiny, metallic gold leggings it is. And who knows, maybe velour leggings are next on my list :).

Anyway, Megan had sent me the pattern for the leggings earlier this summer, and I’ve been waiting anxiously for cooler weather to give them a whirl. And lucky for you - even though Megan is no longer selling her printed patterns online, she just released the Virginia legging as a PDF pattern download. I mean, I know you’re all dying to have shiny gold legs, yourself.
